POSITION SUMMARYThe pharmacy department plays an integral role in the healthcare team at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC). A pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medication by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services. The pharmacist facilitates the medication reconciliation process and works closely within a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best care is provided.
The pharmacist accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current EAMC policies and procedures. The pharmacist is responsible for leading efforts in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy and works to continuously improve process and practice in the institution to enhance safety of medication therapy.
At East Alabama Health, there are inpatient psychiatric units serving adult, geriatric, adolescent, and child/pediatric populations. The Psychiatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for daily team-based rounding on their assigned unit and providing exemplary clinical care to their patients. The pharmacist will provide pharmacotherapy services, medication profile review, documentation, response to drug information questions, order verification, problem resolution, transitions of care, patient counseling, and distributive functions as needed.
The psychiatric clinical pharmacist coordinator will collaborate within the department and with other health care providers to enhance departmental and institutional programs. The pharmacist will provide patient care through the provision of direct operational and/or clinical patient services. Additionally, they will provide leadership through participation in departmental and institutional committees, participation in postgraduate didactic and experiential training programs, and promotion of the profession.
Learners at East Alabama Health include pharmacy students, PGY1 pharmacy residents, PGY2 pharmacy residents, and medical residents, and nursing students. This position will not have routine evening shifts and/or weekend responsibilities. This pharmacist will be the PIC of record for the Alabama Board of Pharmacy and as such ensure compliance with both Alabama pharmacy law and federal statutes.

- Graduate of accredited school of pharmacy

- Active and clear Registered Pharmacist license and Controlled Substance Permit from the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy
- BLS within 90 DOH/Transfer
- ACLS within 90 DOH/Transfer

D and PGY-1/ PGY-2 Residency Completion

- 3-5 years of inpatient hospital pharmacy practice
