Tooling Attendant
Location:
Opelika, AL | Full‑time | 3rd Shift | Food Manufacturing & Facilities Maintenance
The Role
Ensure the proper daily handling and cleaning of parts taken from Formax and grinders. Perform stoning to offset poor patty forming or defects. Examine and inspect items for wear or defects. Maintain inventory of tools and equipment, and pick up and deliver items to and from departments.
What You’ll Be Doing- Clean, inspect, grease machines, and repair grinder knife assemblies and plates.
- Issue, receive, and store items in an orderly and accessible manner.
- Examine and inspect items for wear or defects.

- Participate in purchasing and repair of tools and equipment.
- Explain relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintain files and records.
- Adhere to safety, food safety, quality and legal compliance.
- Perform work in accordance with environmental, health and safety standards, rules, regulations, and practices of the facility.
- Pass required training and certifications (LOTO mandatory).
- Dry clean breather plates, mold plates, anti‑lip bars, etc.
- Clean all small parts in sanitizing solution and stage on a clean surface.
- Systematically remove each plate, inspect edges and stone edges and surfaces as required.
- Sand and file burrs from plates and other meat forming parts.
- Observe and analyze equipment performance and report any problems to the supervisor.
- Keep area clean and clear of debris, waste and safety hazard issues.
- Document completed work as required by the supervisor.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Lift, handle and carry tools, plates and other machine parts.
- Work with chemicals.
- Ability to visually differentiate items of color, up close and in the distance.
- Wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing.
- Stand / walk 7+ hours per day.
- Constantly reach, twist/turn, talk/hear, taste/smell.
- Constantly use eye/hand and eye/hand/foot coordination for inspecting and handling equipment.
- Frequently squat, bend, handle/finger, and grip/grasp.
- Frequently lift up to 25 lb from floor to overhead and carry up to 100 ft.
- Frequently lift up to 50 lb from floor to waist and carry up to 100 ft.
- Occasionally knee/crawl, climb and use fine motor tasks.
- Occasionally lift up to 100 lb from floor to overhead and carry up to 20 ft.
- Push tool cart requiring 35 lb of force up to 100 ft.
- Pull water hose requiring 25 lb of force up to 50 ft.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- Work in damp, wet, humid and slippery environments.
- Work near moving machinery with fumes or airborne debris.
- Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Work in extreme heat/cold (40-90 °F).
- Work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- Occasionally work in high places.
- Occasionally use hand tools causing segmental vibration.
- Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and smock.
- Rubber and cotton gloves.
- Sanding and filing tools.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of handling calipers, micrometers and other tooling equipment.
- Knowledge of correcting metallic defects or abrasion to precision equipment.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one‑on‑one or small group situations to customers, clients, and team members.
- Use effective problem‑solving skills.
- Use basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for production paperwork.
- Perform operations using units of weight, volume, and distance.
