Warehouseman – Golden State Foods – Opelika, AL – Full-time | Food Manufacturing | 2nd Shift

About

The Role
  • Under the direction of the warehouse supervisor, continuously picks, lifts, carries and places product into a pallet to accurately build customer orders in various temperature environments. Moves product into a trailer or storage unit, is responsible for visually inspecting incoming and outgoing warehouse products to determine acceptability for shipment and/or receiving of product.
  • Reads labels and or printing on product containers and associated documents. Counts and calculates quantity of product to verify accuracy of shipment.
  • Must be able to consistently meet company safety, accuracy and productivity standards. Steps into the driving position and uses full range of peripheral vision to operate a forklift or pallet jack in an accident-free manner.
  • Uses brooms, mops and other cleaning materials (including solvents and soaps) to clean work area. Completes any other functions that may be assigned.
Follow Proper Safety Procedures
  • Freezer operations including product rotation
  • Loading and unloading meat and other freight
  • Licensed forklift operator and able to perform operations of various attachments on forklifts including slip sheet attachments, drum attachments, and regular forks and pallet jack
  • Basic communication, reading, writing and math skills to be able to check bill of lading, receiving vouchers, purchase orders, check product inventory and prepare all paper work
  • Knowledgeable in PPE, OSHA, MSDS, lock-out/tag-out, GMP, SSOP, and HACCP
  • Observe and analyze equipment performance and report any problems to your supervisor
  • Read and understand all company policies, procedures, and guidelines as they pertain to you and your job
  • Keep area clean and clear of any safety hazard issues
  • Other assigned duties as required
Safety
  • Safe operation of forklift, pallet jack, and other assigned equipment
  • Safe lifting practices
  • Maintain good working condition of forklifts
  • Familiarize self with area surroundings, such as emergency exits
  • Report any unsafe equipment or conditions
Set-Up
  • Make sure truck and dock areas are prepared for unloading
    • Trailer is to be backed flush against the bay
    • Check to make sure the rear wheels of the trailer are chocked
    • Make sure the dock board is all the way down and secured in place
    • Make sure the trailer lock is engaged and red light is on
    • Check the dock area to make sure it is free of any objects which could interfere with maneuvering pallet jack or forklift
  • Pick up bills of lading
  • Generate shipping inventory and production tally sheets
Monitor Operations
  • Follow established procedure for receiving incoming shipments
    • Obtain Beef Order Sheet and purchase orders from Manager's office.
    • Obtain list of trucks that have arrived on a premises from security guard. Trucks should be received on a "first come first serve" basis unless otherwise notified by supervisor.
    • For Combos (2,000 Lb. Bins)
      • Visually scan the entire load to make sure containers and product are in good condition
      • Check the temperature of the trailer by reading the thermometer on the refrigeration unit
    • Using a probe thermometer, check the temperature of the product before loading
    • Insert the thermometer into the middle of the top layer of meat in the combos at rear of trailer
    • Record the average temperature reading on the Meat Receiving Report (Example

      A)
  • Set the tare weight on the scales the same as shown on the combo
  • Use a forklift to remove combo from truck and place on the scales
  • While the combo is on the scales, inspect the quality of the meat by sight and smell. If you have any doubts about the quality of the product or if it is a different type than was ordered, notify your Supervisor immediately before any meat leaves the Receiving dock
