Set‑Up Mechanic – Packaging Line Team
The Set‑Up Mechanic performs semi‑skilled mechanical work to set up all packaging equipment for changeover and operates equipment including Unscrambler, IMA Filler, Cottoner, NJM Capper/Sealer/Retorquer, NJM Labeler/Optel Vision System, Accraply Neck Bander/Sleeve Bander, and Polypack indexer/Orienter. The role includes basic preventive maintenance, minor mechanical repairs, and mechanical adjustments. The mechanic also disassembles, cleans, re‑assembles, and installs tooling in support of production operations.
EssentialResponsibilities and Duties
- Plan changeover schedule for each packaging line and ensure parts are cleaned and inspected.
- Review changeover checklist, set up, and start up each piece of packaging equipment.
- Support the line until steady state operation is achieved.
- Use hand tools, portable power tools, and material‑handling equipment for precision set up during changeover.
- Identify and perform adjustments to improve production, including line speed, quality, efficiency, and OEE.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and complete preventive maintenance work orders.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs.
- Assist senior mechanics in diagnosing problems and learning complex repairs.
- Issue maintenance requests for major repairs.
- Maintain documentation such as cleaning logs, maintenance logs, and production records.
- Perform duties in compliance with safety rules, SOPs, and cGMP.
- Assist as a Packaging Line technician and Lead when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- No certification required.
- Minimum of one year of knowledge of packaging operation.
- Mechanical aptitude to perform routine repairs, adjustments, and precision set‑up on packaging equipment.
- Ability to work safely with standard hand tools and portable power tools.
- Fluent in written and spoken English for communication, reading manuals, and maintaining records.
- Stand/walk and perform physical labor for most of the shift.
- Pull, push, squat, and move loads up to 50lb intermittently.
- Exposure to loud noise requiring hearing protection.
- Work at temperature extremes, fumes, vibration, dust, and other conditions causing minor discomfort.
- Required personal protective equipment: uniform, hair net, safety glasses, ear plugs, steel‑toed shoes, dust mask, respirator, protective gloves, and back support.
Salary range: $40,000.00 – $66,000.00. Actual compensation is based on location, education, experience, and qualifications.

Overtime is compensated in accordance with state and federal law for non‑exempt hourly employees.
