Overview
HFH of the Lake Martin Area Habitat is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Habitat is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

The proposed Lake Martin Area Habitat for Humanity VISTA will work to expand the operating presence of Habitat in terms of community relations, donations, and fundraising to better support Habitat's mission in the area. This will include creating marketing materials to educate the public and recruit volunteers to work on Habitat projects. Grant writing, fundraising, and volunteerism are core components of the Habitat model to serve our homeowners to help alleviate poverty, and the VISTA will be key to expanding the strength of this model to further our capacity.
The VISTA will be responsible for crafting an action plan which they will then utilize to cultivate new partnerships and resources and spread the word of Habitat to further the possibilities available to our organization for service potential. Above all though, the VISTA will track and monitor all steps they take to ensure sustainability so other VISTAs and/or volunteers can carry on this work in the future.
