Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with at least one year of acute care experience and an active AL or compact RN license for night shifts on a Level 3 trauma unit.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care hospital setting on medical-surgical units (5T or 7T)
- Night shifts, 12 hours each (7p–7a) with schedule flexibility
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6
- Unit beds: 5T - 34 beds; 7T - 36 beds
- 5T patient cases include CKD, ESRD, CVA, DM; 7T includes COPD, sepsis, AMS, UTI, AKI, diabetes, COVID, anemia, and weakness
- Specialized equipment on 5T:
High flow, CPAP, BiPAP; on 7T: all O2 modalities up to BiPAP, no vents - 5T requires reading telemetry strips (no techs on unit);
Philips monitors used - Floating required within the medical-surgical division
- Weekend requirement is 4 shifts per 4 weeks
- Holiday coverage as assigned per unit
- Uses Cerner charting system
- Collaborate within a team environment, demonstrating strong initiative and teamwork especially on 7T
- Charge nurse may be included in staffing based on census needs
- Nurse aides are available with a goal of 1:12 ratio or better
- Unit-specific orientation provided (2 shifts for 5T; one-week PCPO plus 2 shifts for 7T)
- Must wear ceil blue scrubs, which are not provided
- No call or standby requirements for contract staff
- 100-mile radius rule applies for eligibility
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 1 year of acute care RN experience
- Current BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required for 5T; preferred for 7T
- Ability to read cardiac telemetry strips required for 5T
- Experience with set-rate drips and heparin titration (7T); no titration for 5T
