Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit night shift position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Position is in an acute care hospital setting on the Progressive Care Unit (stepdown)
- Unit has 27 beds with potential expansion, Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3 or 1:4 based on acuity
- Typical patient population includes adults with acute and chronic respiratory failure, cardiac conditions, neurological issues, and complex medical diagnoses
- All patients wear telemetry monitors (Phillips brand); central monitor techs monitor rhythms, but nurses are required to analyze and review strips during each shift
- Nurses are responsible for titrating drips with physician orders; common drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and more
- RT equipment includes ventilators via tracheostomy, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, high-flow nasal cannulas
- Cerner EMR is used on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a); every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage required
- Floating may be required to the Cardiac Thoracic Care Unit (stepdown from CVICU)
- No call required
- Responsible for monitoring telemetry, performing EKGs, assessing and documenting patients, and titrating drips as ordered
- Team supports include house supervisor, charge nurse, and multi-care technicians; charge nurse handles assignments and may take patients if needed
- Orientation consists of online learning modules, EKG exam, and unit competency training
- Scrub color required is ceil blue
- Self-scheduling is available, finalized schedules are posted two weeks in advance
- Major and minor holidays are covered on a rotating basis
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Stepdown or critical care experience preferred
- Experience with ventilators and BiPAP preferred
- Ability to titrate cardiac and other drips as required
- Must reside at least 100 miles from the facility to qualify
- Must complete unit-based orientation including EKG exam and online modules
