Position: CHARGE NURSE - EAMC EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Overview

At East Alabama Medical Center, our mission is high quality, compassionate health care, and that statement guides everything we do. We set high standards for customer service, quality, and keeping costs under control.

Responsibilities
  • The registered nurse is responsible for assessing, evaluating, and delegating the delivery of skilled patient care. The focus of assessment and intervention is based on a presenting chief complaint and acuity in a specialized emergency department setting. ED nurses work in a stressful, fast-paced, time-constrained environment where they integrate evidence-based knowledge, make rapid assessments, make critical decisions, and perform life-saving interventions, using prioritization and multitasking.

The ED nurse cares for a wide variety of patients across the age continuum and requires ongoing education, skill refinement, knowledge procurement, and risk recognition. The ED nurse has continuous interaction with physicians, patients, family members, other care areas, and management and is held to the ANA code of ethics with accountability for improving patient care. The FED charge nurse is expected to assist with linen exchange, room upkeep, and general day-to-day activities to keep the department flowing appropriately.
  • As an ED charge nurse, it is expected to maintain a standard of high quality and compassionate care throughout the department and to support staff development. Charge nurses are held to the same standards of care as the RN.
