Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of Game Stop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming.
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for ensuring that products are easy to see and buy, building sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, providing a clean, organized environment, and growing guest loyalty and repeat business. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service by promptly greeting guests, responding to questions and concerns quickly, effectively, and courteously, informing guests of special promotions, and recommending additional items as appropriate. Apply all selling behaviors during every transaction and thank every guest for shopping at Game Stop.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and the guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the Point‑of‑Sale (POS) system, ensuring proper change, bagging merchandise, and providing receipts.
- Respond to guest comments or phone calls promptly, courteously, and professionally; use the prescribed phone greeting and, when necessary, elevate customer issues to the Store Manager in a timely manner.
- Promote Game Stop’s guest benefits such as new title reservations, trade‑in, and Pro Rewards loyalty programs.
- Assist the Store Manager with setting and training staff on guest‑service expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback, and address performance issues in alignment with company guest‑service standards.
- Document performance feedback for each associate in the Workday/HR service management system in partnership with the Store Manager.
- Ensure all associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before opening or closing a shift.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager on scheduling, ensuring all staffing guidelines, breaks, and meals are accounted for to maintain optimal guest service.
- Approve payroll entries, manage paid time off, and verify that associates are paid for all hours worked.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and merchandising of all store areas, including restrooms, in accordance with company guidelines.
- Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
- Protect company assets through effective inventory control, loss prevention, and bank deposit procedures; inspect associates’ packages at closing or shift end when appropriate.
- Support the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals, completing required administrative and operational duties.
- Perform inventory counts, restock merchandise, and keep the sales floor organized, represented, and alphabetized.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals accurately in the POS system; complete closeout paperwork and bank deposit slips correctly.
