Diesel Technician Mechanic

Overview

Immediately hiring a permanent full-time experienced mid-level Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Opelika, Alabama.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and performs repairs as required
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of the complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification; post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) as required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in the field, or equivalent
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
• This position may require driving Ryder vehicles; must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass Ryder drug test and DOT physical; pass Ryder road test and background/motor vehicle check for last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Hourly pay: $24.45 per hour
• Certification bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained up to $700
• Quarterly bonus:
  Ryder pays up to $500 each quarter
• Sign-on bonuses: $1,250 at 30 days and $1,250 at 90 days
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends off
• Annual merit pay increases; on-the-job paid training
