Overview
Immediately hiring a permanent full-time experienced mid-level Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Opelika, Alabama.
Responsibilities- Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
- Performs standard vehicle maintenance
- Performs standard component inspections and repairs
- Performs preventive maintenance
- Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
- Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and performs repairs as required
- Replaces defective components as instructed
- Performs facility maintenance duties
- Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of the complaint once assigned a task
- Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
- Performs other support duties as required to support operations
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or technical certification; post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) as required
- Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in the field, or equivalent
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
- This position may require driving Ryder vehicles; must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass Ryder drug test and DOT physical; pass Ryder road test and background/motor vehicle check for last 3 years
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
Benefits- Hourly pay: $24.45 per hour
- Certification bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained up to $700
- Quarterly bonus:
Ryder pays up to $500 each quarter - Sign-on bonuses: $1,250 at 30 days and $1,250 at 90 days
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, weekends off - Annual merit pay increases; on-the-job paid training
