Lead Locate Technician
Job DescriptionThe Lead Locate Technician leads a team of employees, maintaining and protecting coverage area while following company policies and safety regulations. They are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities—telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines—and guiding the team to complete these tasks. The role ensures compliance with client and state requirements.

Responsibilities- Lead a group of assigned employees and manage coverage area.
- Observe, locate, mark, and document underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods.
- Dispatch and verify locations for utility customers.
- Oversee daily scheduling of contractors and sub‑contractors.
- Route tickets to ensure optimized efficiency.
- Plan daily production targets and provide assistance when needed.
- Review prior day documents and reports, review daily expectations and safety messages, and adjust as needed.
- Audit documents and ensure compliance with client regulations.
- Establish client quality assurance and resolve problems when needed.
- Ensure all team members’ timesheets are correct and account for all members.
- Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking up to buried facilities.
- Operate in diverse terrain and weather conditions.
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
- Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as needed.
- Conduct work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
- Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to maintain a damage‑free environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
- Multiple years of utility locating experience.
- Documentation of an excellent quality ratio within the locating industry.
- Knowledge and experience using multiple types of utility locating equipment.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
- Experience operating a vacuum truck (A+).
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Passed a background screening with no violations within the last 3 years.
- Passed a DOT drug test.
