Job DescriptionMaintenance Technician
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and expertise required to perform routine maintenance services. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Knowledge and ability to perform general carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
- Minimum of five years commercial maintenance/construction work experience.
- Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, evidence of insurance, and ability to drive.
- Must be able to pass random drug tests.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
JOB GOALS: Engages in or works on the actual installation, repair, or replacement of plumbing systems; assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems; and performs other routine maintenance services as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
The Maintenance Technician performs duties such that the district facilities are in excellent operating conditions. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in replacing worn or defective switches, faucets, and other fixtures.
- Assist other craftsmen in completing assignments.
- Operate a backhoe and other equipment; backflow certification would be a plus.
- Perform maintenance services such as change air filters, deliver supplies, move various items, install fencing, cleaning, lawn maintenance, and any other routine services that are to be handled by the Maintenance Department.
- Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
- Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
- Installs sheetrock and paints
- Cuts and threads pipe.
- Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and all types of pipes.
- Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent.
- Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Utilize knowledge of applicable boiler, backflow, welder, table saw, auger, and plumbing codes.
- Estimate job costs.
- Framing and masonry work
- Operate lawn equipment.
Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Maintenance Supervisor.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
