Job DescriptionJob Goal: To identify educational, developmental, and behavioral issues in exceptional children and provide recommendations to support their educational journey in collaboration with school personnel, parents or guardians, and relevant agencies.
Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills, and/or experience)- Master’s degree in Elementary or Secondary Education, Special Education, Early Childhood, or Childhood Development.
- Type B certification with a minimum of 1 year of classroom teaching in a certified Special Education area.
- Certification in at least two Special Education areas: one in learning disabilities or general certification with a specialization at the master’s level.
- Completion of supervised internship with child-contact hours involving the administration, scoring, and interpretation of educational tests.
- Specific coursework requirements in the following areas:
- Diagnosis and remediation of reading problems (six semester hours)
- Educational diagnosis (six semester hours)
- Applied learning theory (3 semester hours)
- Behavioral intervention strategies, including systematic behavioral assessment (three semester hours)
- Diagnostic/prescriptive assessment strategies (three semester hours)
- Test theory (three hours)
- Secure pertinent information about the child referred (birth, physical, health, social, emotional development, etc.).
- Identify and document academic and behavioral problems as seen by school.
- Utilize approved testing materials, observation techniques to determine students’ functioning level (academic, emotional, speech, hearing, language, social development, etc.).
- Document the implementation of evaluation procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
- Interpret findings and recommendations; provide to school personnel and other agencies involved.
- Assist in writing an Individualized Educational Plan wherever appropriate.
- Assist school personnel and parents with necessary help to carry out recommendations.
- Maintain accurate data on children, teachers, parents, and programs supported.
- Demonstrate knowledge in field of expertise as it relates to Pupil Appraisal and act as the district contact person for assigned areas, as applicable (e.g., 504, Dyslexia).
- Keep case material confidential.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding student diagnosis, assessment, and educational plans for exceptional children.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Sedentary:
Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently; involves sitting most of the time.
Terms of Employment: 10 month
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (Bulletin 130).
