Security Officer

Schedule

Part Time: 7am & (#1) 3-11pm shift (to include Weekend and Holiday coverage)

Provide a safe, secure environment for JKV residents, employees, visitors, and property.

• Provide staffing at all JKV entry gate houses, confirming approved access of all vehicle entries.
• Patrol on foot, security vehicle or golf cart all buildings and grounds ensuring safety and suspicious activity are handled in accordance to JKV Security policies and procedures.
• Provide welfare checks on residents and assist with other duties in the absence of facilities or transportation staff.
• Answer telephone, route calls to appropriate staff and provide general assistance to the caller.
• Write incident reports and operate a computer with basic data entry and Microsoft Office skills.
• Effectively deal with stressful situations, remain calm and stay mentally sharp, assuring sound judgement by referring to security policies and procedures.
• Respond and dispatch all code calls, motor vehicle incidents and any suspicious activity reports.
• Locking and unlocking of buildings and application of requested lock-outs by residents or staff.
• Communicate with security staff and other departmental staff on a hand‑held 2‑way radio.
• Work cooperatively in a team environment and follow instructions given by supervisor or manager.

• Assist as instructed by the resident nurse in lifting and transferring residents.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

• Routinely patrolled inside and outside of buildings requiring extensive walking and standing.
• Routinely works various shifts and days and stays mentally sharp.
• Exposure to all types of weather, noise, odors, chemicals temperature, infectious diseases, etc.
• On‑call or overtime requirements 24/7.
• Prolonged standing or sitting.

• Must pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Clearinghouse ().
• Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical requirements may include frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee may be required to lift, stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; and smell.
  
  Vision abilities may require close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Must read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
• Requires possession of a valid Florida Drivers License.

• Maintain a professional, respectful, friendly demeanor with all residents, family members, guests, and staff at all times.
