Engineering Technician

The Clae Electric Cooperative, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technician to handle electric service applications or inquiries, maintain records, prepare minor staking sheets, and process permits/right-of-way easements under the direct supervision of an Engineering Supervisor – District, Senior Engineer, or assigned Division Manager.

Essential Job Functions
  • Staking Sheets:
    Prepares staking sheets for minor overhead and underground projects.
  • Permits:
    Prepares and processes municipal, county, and FDOT permits/right-of-way easements; compiles and submits reports as required or directed.
  • Geographic Information System (GIS):
    Utilizes GIS, ensuring projects are properly and timely entered into GIS.
  • Work with Members, Builders or Developers:
    Ensures clear understanding between Clay Electric and members, builders or developers regarding new service requirements stipulated in the Standards for Electric Service and member needs.
  • Job Orders:
    Receives, stakes and processes job orders, ensuring required engineering and related data/records are kept up to date.
  • Cost Estimates:
    Prepares cost estimates as required.
  • Reports:
    Prepares and processes reports related to construction and maintenance activities.
  • Safety:
    Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and follows applicable portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual.
  • Other Essential Duties:
    Performs additional duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, including responding to or assisting in emergency situations.
Minimum Training and Experience

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience as a Clay Electric Engineering Aide and completion of two out of the three phases in the Hi-Line Comprehensive Staking Technician training curriculum.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license.

Substitution:
Experience as a staking technician at an electric utility may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis; experience as a journey-level Lineworker, Serviceworker or Field Electrical Equipment Technician may substitute on a two (2) years for one (1) year basis; a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology from an ETAC/ABET accredited program may substitute for the minimum training and experience requirement.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to use a laptop computer and understand circuit diagrams, computer‑displayed mapping, the customer information system and other computer‑based systems as required.
  • Ability to comprehend and understand construction work plans, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of work studies and surveys.
  • Ability to work with other divisions to render the most efficient service possible.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Clay Electric’s Construction Standards, National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code and Clay Electric’s Standards for Electric Service.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other technology software/tools used in the department, including the use of iPads and other company‑issued electronic devices.
