Assistant Director of Admission Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Office of Undergraduate Admission’s management team charged with recruiting, selecting and yielding the first year and transfer classes. Serve in a public relations and information role with prospective applicants, their parents and their high school guidance counselors, both in the office and on the road; traveling throughout an assigned territory and helping with other regional work nearby: attending college fairs;

presenting informational programs and developing collegial relationships with school personnel and identifying and recruiting appropriate applicants from the assigned territory. Other special projects include collaborating with campus constituents to further develop strong relationships with important stakeholder in the assigned territory, develop data‑driven strategies in the recruitment territory and represent the Office of Admission as a liaison to other on‑campus departments.

Attend and participate in professional development activities and associations. Assist throughout the year in the development and implementation of the new student enrollment plan including our messages for information sessions, receptions and staff training. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities Recruitment, outreach, liaison, and programming
  • Work with leadership in the development of recruitment plans and strategies for on and off campus activities that are in alignment with the Admissions Office and Chapman’s enrollment goals, missions and values.
  • Creates an annual recruitment outreach plan and develop market analysis and competitor intelligence.
  • Conduct analysis of historical data to determine outreach targets and help with other regional receptions.
  • Research and evaluate the demographic and academic characteristics of an assigned geographic territory, school group, and/or traditionally underrepresented student groups in order to create an annual recruitment outreach plan and develop market analysis and competitor intelligence.
  • Recommend and develop new approaches to attracting the most competitive candidates to the University.
  • Prioritize and decide on college fairs, information programs and school visits within the year for the assigned territory.
Counseling/Advisement
  • Interview prospective students to evaluate suitability for admission.
  • Advise prospects and applicants on requirements, general education, majors, financial aid/scholarship opportunities, and outcomes.
Read/review assigned applications
  • Read and evaluate first year applications and a limited number of transfer applications.
  • Make decision recommendations, with specific guidelines that are highly individualized and based on a comprehensive evaluation of the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the materials as well as a thorough understanding of the University’s educational philosophy and enrollment goals.
  • Provide rationales and backup data for the Admission Committee when a decision may be different than the recommendation.
  • As a member of the University Admission Committee, participate in the full admission process.
  • Assist Executive Director of Admission with coordinating file review and training.
Admissions Liaison
  • Work with a designated academic unit and student affairs unit in facilitating the process for students interested in that area.
  • Coordination and training of limited term staff assigned to application review.
  • Supervisory responsibility as a team lead in reading and committee work.
  • Provide guidance to Admissions Counselors in resolving complex situations or difficult questions.
  • Assist throughout the year in the development and implementation of the new student enrollment plan including our messages for information sessions, reception and tour guide training. Partial charge in connecting our message management and communication content in creating outlines, visuals and training for professional and student staff.
Professional development activities
  • Actively serve as a member of WACAC/NACAC at regional and national level seeking leadership and stewardship roles.
