Join our growing Orange County team as a Structural Design Engineer and become part of a winning team! VCA Structural has an immediate opening for a hands-on engineer to collaborate with top-tier developers and architectural clients who are actively involved in large-scale new construction projects across the West Coast. This position requires a practical, solutions-oriented approach, as your experience will quickly grow to include a portfolio of successfully completed projects.
Our projects encompass wood, steel, and concrete construction, with a focus on new, ground-up developments.
As a Structural Design Engineer, you ll apply your expertise and proven productivity to perform a range of design tasks in collaboration with our design team. You ll develop creative solutions to project challenges and demonstrate proficiency with state-of-the-art design and documentation tools. Organizational and time-management skills will be essential as you prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. You ll also have opportunities to enhance your technical knowledge through company training and mentorship from experts with decades of experience in wood, concrete, steel, and masonry design.

The Structural Design Engineer will be responsible for preparing construction documents and supporting calculations for a variety of projects, including but not limited to:
- High-density, multi-story residential mixed-use apartments (podium & wrap types)
- Detached single-family homes
- Senior/affordable housing
- Commercial, hospitality, and parking structures
In the initial phase, you will work in a supporting role, utilizing cutting-edge technology to create industry-leading, well-coordinated, and cost-efficient construction documents. Over time, you ll transition into a more senior role, attending project meetings and collaborating with architects, developers, contractors, and other design professionals to develop efficient and practical design solutions that ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (required). Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering is a plus.
- Licensing: E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) required, with a commitment to obtain PE (Professional Engineering License) at the earliest eligibility.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with building codes and standards applicable to projects located in California.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, ETABS, RAM Structural Suite, RISA, Enercalc, PTI Slab, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- 2+ years of combined structural design experience in wood, single-and multi-family dwellings, podiums, wraps, and concrete parking structures.

This role is based in our Orange, CA office, where you ll be part of an innovative and growing team. Additionally, we have an office in Denver, CO. If you re ever interested in relocating, the option to transfer to our Denver office is available!
