Position OverviewThis position is approved for Partial Telework. If telework is approved, you are required to work within the State of California only. If Partial Telework, you also come to the Main Office in Orange, CA at least two (2) days per week.
ResponsibilitiesThe Supervisor, Accounting will be responsible for assisting management with the direct supervision of accounting operations and/or general ledger division of the department. You will assist management by providing explanations and making recommendations for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely closing, financial reporting and financial variance analysis.
- Supervision, 50%:
Participate in a mission‑driven culture of high‑quality performance, with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity and accountability. - Assist the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborate with others to support short‑ and long‑term goals/priorities for the department.
- Support the department with overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, investment and/or ad hoc functions.
- Supervise, train and provide performance goals for direct staff.
- Assist management in monitoring and analyzing department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Program Support, 45%:
Apply a thorough understanding of Cal Optima Health's policies and procedures, general ledger structures and financial statements. - Review and approve journal entries, monthly account analysis and audit related schedules.
- Assist management in analyzing monthly financial package reports and variance explanations.
- Advise staff regarding the handling of non‑routine accounting transactions.
- Coordinate with other departments to verify report data and solve pending issues.
- Manage relationship with external parties such as statutory agencies, providers, and vendors.
- Support management with financial, statutory and federal single audits.
- Other, 5%:
Complete other projects and duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field PLUS 3 years of accounting or finance experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be qualifying.
- 1 year of senior level and/or lead experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Financial or accounting experience in a managed care, health plan or hospital setting.
- Develop rapport and maintain effective working relationships with Cal Optima Health leadership, staff and external contacts.
- Work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Work a flexible schedule; available to participate in evening and weekend events.
- Organize, analyze, problem‑solve and possess project management skills.
- Work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Manage multiple projects and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Motivate and lead multi‑program teams and external committees/coalitions.
- Utilize computer and appropriate software (Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and job‑specific applications to produce correspondence, charts, spreadsheets or other information applicable to the position.

- Speak clearly in conversations and general communication.
- Hearing capability for telephone and face‑to‑face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, prolonged sitting.
