Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
Reporting to the System Supervisor 2 of Server/Storage Support, the Systems Administrator works independently and is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of the server infrastructure. Incumbent is expected to learn new technologies, resolve integration problems, and support systems for two data centers running over 200 Windows and Unix-based servers and 3,000 client machines. The role includes system analysis, documentation development (server specifications, disaster recovery, application recovery manuals in text and web-based formats), and daily support for all clinical and non‑clinical systems across the UCI Health System.
- Advanced experience writing and editing complex scripts for TCP/IP, ARP, DHCP, UDP, TCP, DNS, routing, and firewalls.
- Advanced scripting skills and automation using Python, Power Shell, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Experience with Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, VMware clustering and networking.
- Linux systems management focusing on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu, and other distributions as required.
- Strong DNS, DHCP, and WINS knowledge.
- Minimum 5 years of directly related enterprise computing experience at a mid‑to‑senior level.
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server operating systems (Windows 2003 through Server 2012).
- Experience with enterprise file sharing (DFS) design, management, and automation.
- Reporting services experience for storage capacity, user data, and growth.
- Basic understanding of ITIL methodology.
- Roadmap development including SDLC.
- Fiber Channel knowledge (FC zoning, WWNs, storage fabric) and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Cisco UCS networking experience.
- Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies, with experience securing complex server‑based software.
- Ability to work independently on configuration, installation, and maintenance projects.
- Ability to maintain an appropriate work pace for workload demands.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships across the Health System, School of Medicine, UCI Research Administration, and other UC System campuses.
- Experience in script languages such as Python, Bash, Power Shell, VMware PowerCLI, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Experience supporting Linux, VMware, Cisco UCS, Nutanix platforms.
- Knowledge of medical and academic industry structures.
- Knowledge of University and Medical Center organization policies, procedures, and forms.
- Experience with Unix OS and Unix server administration.
- Experience with Allscripts and/or EPIC Electronic Medical Records systems.
- Experience managing storage area networks (e.g., EMC, HP, IBM).
- Experience managing distributed file services (DFS), VMware services, Active Directory, Comm Vault Simpana backups, Orion monitoring, Exchange 2010, Lync 2013, DNS, DHCP, and basic SQL/Oracle administration.
