Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Law & Motion / Appeals Attorney with exceptional legal writing and motion practice skills to support complex medical malpractice defense litigation
. This role partners closely with trial attorneys and claims specialists across pre-trial, trial, post-trial, and appellate phases
, focusing on early dismissal strategies, persuasive briefing, and appellate advocacy.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled legal draftsperson with deep knowledge of California trial and appellate courts
, capable of efficiently identifying key legal issues and delivering results.
- Designate, review, and analyze trial court records and appellate documents
- Monitor appellate dockets and filing deadlines
- Research and analyze case law
, drafting persuasive appellate briefs, motions, and applications - Assist trial counsel in issue framing and record preservation for appeal
- Advise attorneys and claims specialists on writ petitions and appellate strategy
- Draft pleadings, motions, and supporting memoranda
- Formulate creative and cost-effective motion strategies
, including early dismissal efforts - Obtain concurrence with claims specialists and attorneys on motion strategy
- Attend court appearances and argue motions
- Support trial and arbitration preparation as requested
- Ensure compliance with Defense Attorney Guidelines
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
- Active license to practice law in California
- Focus on high-impact legal writing and appellate advocacy
- Collaborative environment with trial attorneys and claims professionals
