Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney with a strong background in medical malpractice defense to manage cases from inception through trial and arbitration. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of medicine, medical‑legal issues, and California litigation procedures, and will demonstrate the ability to develop and execute effective defense strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of assigned medical malpractice cases, including trial and arbitration preparation and presentation
  • Collaborate with trial/lead attorneys to formulate discovery and investigation strategies
  • Coordinate with Claims Specialists to obtain concurrence on defense preparation and case strategy
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, and other legal filings
  • Draft, review, and respond to discovery requests
  • Attend court appearances, hearings, and conferences
  • Prepare cases for trial and arbitration, including witness and exhibit preparation
  • Represent physicians at depositions in deposition‑only matters
  • Respond to hotline inquiries from the Claims Department
  • Assist trial/lead attorneys in preparing reports to Claims throughout all stages of litigation to ensure timely reporting and completion of case work‑up
  • Ensure cost‑effective case handling and overall defense strategy
  • Share legal knowledge and best practices with other attorneys
  • Comply with all Defense Attorney Guidelines and internal policies
Qualifications

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of medical malpractice litigation experience

Licensure:

  • Active license to practice law in the State of California

  • Strong understanding of medical and healthcare‑related legal issues
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Strategic thinker with sound judgment and attention to detail
