The Nurse Practitioner II in the Department of Urology will manage and coordinate all inpatient care across the department’s divisions, working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities- Assess health needs, plan and evaluate care for patients on the urology services.
- Participate in inpatient sign-out at the beginning and end of shifts; follow up with Urology teams/residents/attending physicians.
- Perform surgical consultations on potential urology surgery patients.
- Coordinate procedures including scheduling operations and interventional procedures; obtain consults as needed and discharge patients with summaries, instructions, and medications when appropriate.
- Triage phone calls; review critical labs; follow up on results with patients and medical staff.
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform initial and periodic physical examinations/assessments.
- Identify and treat hospitalized patients; demonstrate advanced medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, and professional communication skills.
- Provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians in ambulatory or inpatient settings under supervision and policies/procedures.
- Be accountable for standards of care for the specified patient population and maintain timely and compliant documentation.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
- Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Certification (Beginning February 2018):
Adult Gerontology Acute Care AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG. - Current BLS & ACLS certification.
- At least 6 months of working NP experience; experience in Urology and inpatient experience in an academic setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience in Urological Care nursing; familiarity with UC policies and procedures.
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese.
