Your Role on the TeamThe position of APP Supervisor in the Department of Emergency Medicine requires a highly competent, independent yet team‑oriented individual who supervises advanced practice providers (APPs) responsible for patient evaluation, testing, diagnosis, plans of care, and treatment within a clinical department or specialty practice area.
As a supervisor, the applicant receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them. As a Nurse Practitioner, the individual participates in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and provides multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.
This Position May PerformFunctions as appropriate to their scope of practice, including management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedure. Familiarity with state statute for licenses is necessary. The NP professional may provide patient care in age groups based on educational preparation and at all Health licensed settings and affiliates. The NP has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and demonstrates self‑direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role across the Health locations and affiliates.
APPs must be credentialed to practice and be privileged through Medical Staff to function in their clinical role. Credentialing and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. The NP is accountable to, evaluated, and provided feedback by the supervising/collaborating physician, physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, or the Administrative Manager.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
- Exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
- Demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Communicate medical information clearly to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.
- Show excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. Maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
- Possess the essential skills, knowledge and ability to perform assigned duties successfully.
- Be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
- Understand and adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information.
