Your Role on the Team
As a Public Safety Ambassador or Public Safety Responder with the UC Irvine Police Department, you will monitor, observe, and report public safety concerns and conditions across the UCI campus and its health network. Your responsibilities include patrolling assigned posts, providing customer service to patients, visitors, students, faculty, and staff, de‑escalating incidents, staffing the Public Safety Operations Center (PSOC), and supervising surveillance equipment.
You will also assist in placing patients in restraints, write reports, and monitor security systems.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Good reading, writing, and speaking skills in English.
- Capability to conduct sustained foot patrols and/or extended stationary post assignments.
- Successfully complete the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety basic certification within six months of employment and maintain it throughout employment.
- Ability to monitor and operate video surveillance systems following initial training.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Valid California driver’s license and participation in the DMV Pull‑Notice Program.
- Current State of California Guard Card issued by the Bureau of Security Investigative Services (BSIS) prior to hire.
- Successful completion of an extensive background investigation, including Livescan fingerprinting, with no felony convictions.
- Successful completion of an FBI fingerprinting process and maintenance of that status throughout employment.
- Required to hold a valid driver’s license, maintain a driving record that meets local policies and procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull‑Notice Program.
- Experience working in a university environment.
- Bilingual language skills.
- Hospital security experience.
- Completion of PC 832 Arrest and Firearms training.
- At least one year of experience working with the public in a customer‑service environment.
- As a condition of employment, must successfully complete an extensive background investigation, including Livescan fingerprinting.
- No felony convictions.
- Required to successfully complete an FBI fingerprinting process and maintain that status throughout employment.
