Substitute Teachers

Qualifications:

Strong work ethic, strong communication skills, oral and/or written references from colleagues and/or supervisors testifying to the candidate's qualifications, a Bachelor's Degree (preferred), or some post-high school education.

Requirements:
It is essential that substitute teachers have demonstrated experiences working with children (preferably in an educational setting), following lesson plans and instructional objectives, connecting with students, facilitating learning, collaborating with colleagues (preferably in an educational setting), adhering to student privacy and confidentiality policies, and learning new techniques with flexibility.

Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of school principals, a substitute teacher will provide coverage for classroom teachers on a daily basis. Substitute teachers are responsible for keeping students safe by following school and classroom safety procedures, following teacher lesson plans, classroom behavior management procedures or class created charters, engaging in teacher duties such as, but not limited to, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal duties, ensuring the classroom is in order at the end of the day, and leaving a note for the teacher if necessary, to inform him/her of any incidents he/she may need to know.

Term/Duration:
Workdays follow the Orange Public Schools Student Calendar, therefore work is available on school days. 7.5 hours a day (8:00 am-3:30 pm) on days when the substitute teacher is available to work.

Salaries:
The 2025-26 daily rate is $125.00 for non-certified subs and $130.00 for certified teacher subs.
