The Orange Elementary School District (PreK
- 6) is seeking a passionate and innovative Library Media Specialist to foster creativity, integrate technology, promote literature appreciation, and support digital citizenship in an engaging elementary school library environment with a fixed class schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design engaging library lessons that inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning.
  • Incorporate digital tools and emerging technologies into library instruction.
  • Support students and teachers in using technology for research, collaboration, and creative projects.
  • Manage and promote digital resources, including eBooks, databases, and online learning tools.
  • Curate a diverse and inclusive collection that supports reading for pleasure and academic growth.
  • Promote literacy through book talks, author visits, reading challenges, and storytelling.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate literature into classroom curriculum.
  • Teach students responsible and ethical online behavior, including internet safety, copyright, and media literacy.
  • Guide students in evaluating online sources for credibility and reliability.
Curation & Resource Evaluation
  • Evaluate, develop and maintain a balanced library collection, including books, digital resources, and multimedia.
  • Create and share resource lists to support curriculum needs.
  • Collaborate with educators to provide high-quality instructional materials and research support.
  • Provide professional development for staff on available library resources, research tools, and digital databases.
  • Responsible for maintaining the media center department budget.
  • Collaborate with the district technology staff to ensure access to equipment and software that support innovative instructional practices.
Library Operations & Volunteer Management
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the library, ensuring a welcoming and organized environment.
  • Recruit, train, and manage parent volunteers to support library programs and daily tasks.
Qualifications:
  • State certification as a School Library Media Specialist (062)
  • Experience in library management, educational technology, or literacy instruction.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and instructional skills.
Preferred

Skills:
  • Familiarity with AASL and ISTE standards for library instruction.
  • Experience with Accelerated Reader and other technology tools to support literacy and student engagement.
  • Proficiency in using library automation systems and digital databases.
  • Passion for fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning in elementary students.

Determined by Orange Teachers' League contract
