Job Description
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Environmental & Permitting Consultant for local offices in either Shelton, Connecticut or Orange, Connecticut. The role would provide oversight and assistance for utility‑related operations and capital projects.
The Senior Consultant will coordinate with local, state, and federal regulators and stakeholders such as CTDEEP, State Historic Preservation Office, CT Siting Council, CT DOT and others to ensure that our utility clients maintain continuous regulatory and permitting awareness and compliance.
The Lead Consultant is responsible for ensuring robust and compliant spill response, waste and material management, environmental reporting, as well as continuous monitoring for environmental risk factors and coordination of necessary communications and risk‑mitigation response. The position also requires close attention to changing environmental regulations and changes proposed through House Bills and Public Acts.
The Lead Consultant will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Construction Managers, Outreach and Energy Land Management staff, and design and consulting engineers during the project design process to ensure all environmental permitting and compliance requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities- Support CT Siting Council applications, reporting requirements and conditions
- Oversee construction and ensure compliance with permits
- Review Engineering drawings, reports, plans and permit applications
- Communicate with regulatory agencies and stakeholders
- Prepare Request for Proposal packages and support that process
- Provide written comments regarding regulatory changes
- SPCC Support
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Requirements
- Universal, TSCA, Non‑Hazardous and Hazardous Waste Management Disposal Support
- Invoicing and Proposal review
- Contracts Management
- Contractor management - billing and field
- Spill Management – on‑call spill response, reporting
- Storm Duty Response Role
- Protected Species and other wildlife management
- EMS/Compliance Audits
- Spoils Management Program Support
- Construction Field oversight of material management and permit compliance
- Stay engaged with the latest CTDEEP regulations (RBCRs), permit updates
- 5‑7 years of environmental compliance field experience
- Bachelor's Degree in an environmental related major
- Knowledge/experience with local, state and federal permits and regulations
- Knowledge/experience working with contaminated environmental media, such as soil and groundwater
- Construction and/or remediation oversight field experience
- Excellent writing skills
- Good understanding of regulatory affairs
- Experience managing environmental compliance for construction projects
- Familiarity with CTDEEP permits and RBCRs
- Master's in an environmental related field
- PE, LEP, CHMM or CESQP certification
- RCRA/CDOT Training
- Knowledge or experience working with protected species, wetlands, sensitive resources
