Position Overview
The Portfolio and Grant Accountant will be an integral member of the YSN Business Office
, reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Administration
.
Job responsibilities include overseeing a portfolio of accounts, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, planning, and compliance. This portfolio may include global/international components of sponsored awards.
The incumbent will provide financial expertise to faculty and administrative staff on the Yale School of Nursing, Office of Research pre‑award team, and support the research mission on sponsored and non‑sponsored funding sources, including grants, contracts, subawards, and internal grants funded through various streams such as gifts and endowments.
Principal ResponsibilitiesRisk Management:
Monitor and certify policy adherence for all financial activity within the portfolio and advise faculty and clients on appropriate financial policies.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Four years of related financial experience required.
Required Skill/Ability- Continual process improvement and data‑driven monitoring: Demonstrated understanding.
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to cultivate and maintain strong partnerships.
- Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work independently, self‑motivated, strong attention to accuracy, confidentiality, positive attitude, and teamwork.
- Financial Analysis & Data Mining: Well‑developed skills and understanding of financial models.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PC‑related software; strong background in finance and financial analysis.
- Experience with G&C Administration, Workday Financials and/or YBT.
- Experience as an accountant or financial professional.
- Mentoring and advising staff.
- Experience with externally sponsored awards, including NIH awards.
