Job Summary
This is not an application to apply to become an employee of Lamar State College Orange. This application is only used to collect information on third party employees, and is for part-time hours. If LIT decides to use your services, you will not be eligible for full time employment benefits and you will not be paid directly by LSCO.
Workforce Instructors must be qualified and competent to teach applicable courses within the degree and certificate programs. Hours vary, depending on the need and course schedule, and may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
This is not a posting for ONLINE instructors. Classes will be delivered at State of Texas Correctional and Juvenile Justice facilities/units.
- Teach pre-service and in-service courses at State of Texas Correctional and Juvenile Justice facilities/units scheduled and actively engage with students in the learning process
- Provide student feedback and respond to student communications in a timely manner
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Attend adjunct faculty meetings as requested
- Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels
- Complete required training, such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training, etc.
- Take advantage of the professional development opportunities offered by LSCO and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Faculty
- Development trainings to continually refine and improve professional knowledge and teaching skills
- Adhere to the policies and procedures contained in LSCO's Policies and Procedures Manuals
- Other related duties, as assigned
- Associate degree in teaching discipline; OR
- Licensure or certificate in teaching discipline + applicable years of relevant work experience in teaching discipline
- Possess good time management skills
- Bachelor degree in teaching discipline, or higher
- Experience teaching in higher education is preferred
- Related field and/or industry certifications, if applicable
- Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
- This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code section 51.215.
Benefits: LSCO will provide up to 6 hours of tuition per semester at no cost to eligible TDCJ instructors; not to exceed 36 semester credit hours.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
