Job Summary

This position is a full-time faculty position to serve as the Program Director and primary instructor for the HVAC Technology Program. This position reports directly to the Department Chair of Building Trades.

The HVAC Program Director helps lead the growing HVAC Technology Program and Lamar State College Orange by providing faculty guidance in curricular changes, scheduling, course assignments and industry relations.

Each faculty member will schedule office hours which include the normal working hours (8:00 - 5:00), not excluding evening hours when classes are in session. During these office hours, the faculty member will be available to counsel students and will be available for departmental, divisional, and institutional obligations.

Responsibilities
  • Teach the courses within the HVAC Technology Program such as Residential Air Conditioning, Basic Electricity for HVAC, Refrigeration Principles, Gas and Electric Heating, Troubleshooting, Installation, Residential AC Systems Design, etc.
  • Prepare, supervise, and instruct in classroom settings, in face‑to‑face, online, or hybrid venues as assigned by the College Administration.
  • Conduct field‑based or off‑campus instruction.
  • Design, prepare, and supervise laboratory activities and other associated responsibilities.
  • Measure student performance, including preparing, administering, grading, and evaluating tests, papers, examinations, and research projects; report grades; and participate in the assessment of course and program outcomes.
  • Conduct assessment and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes for each course, departmental or program outcomes, and general education student learning outcomes as appropriate.
  • Confer with and advise students, including assistance with degree plans, registration, and course assistance.
  • Coordinate and supervise student activities directly related to the academic program.
  • Experiment with teaching methods and teaching‑oriented research to create effective learning environments.
  • Write letters of recommendation for students.
  • Select and procure books, films, and other materials for classroom, library, learning center, or laboratory use.
  • Periodically evaluate library holdings and recommend books and other materials to be ordered by the library or learning center.
  • Develop new courses and programs of study, including web‑based and other technology‑based instruction.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development, including establishing program and student learning outcomes, and reporting learning outcomes results as required by departmental procedures.
  • Maintain ongoing reading and research to remain proficient and grow in the professional field.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required by College Administration.
  • Hold membership or office in professional associations.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional associations.
  • Support student success by assisting with and participating in commencement, PTK inductions, and other related ceremonies.
  • Serve on institutional and affiliated committees.
  • Serve on professional association committees.
  • Participate in college‑wide assessment activities.
  • Participate in institutionally sponsored activities to recruit students.
  • Interview and screen candidates for faculty and staff appointments.
  • Coordinate, advise, and supervise student organizations or activities not directly related to the academic program.
  • Advise and counsel students.
  • Participate in sponsored community service or community projects.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Education
:
Associate’s degree, College Certificate, or Industry Recognized Credential, or equivalent relevant training required.
