Job SummaryThe Library Associate – Evening reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Support and Instructional Services. This position is responsible for closing the library daily with working hours being 10 AM to 7 PM. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
Duties/Responsibilities Essential Job Functions- Promotes information literacy by teaching students the knowledge and skills to access and evaluate information effectively, using current technologies in a classroom setting or online.
- Executes library programming in coordination with the Director.
- Designs and develops library instructional materials and guides in print and electronic forms.
- Provides reference and research services to students, faculty, and other library users using electronic and print tools and resources.
- Manages circulation duties in accordance with library policy.
- Hires and manages student employees.
- ILL Services: responsible for verifying, locating, and requesting from other libraries items for use by Lamar State College Orange students, faculty, and staff. Processes interlibrary lending requests received from other institutions.
- Serials: manage the processing, maintenance, and weeding of the print serials collection.
- Participates in library planning and the development of policies and procedures.
- Participates in professional activities and maintains familiarity with theory, practices, and trends in college libraries.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Works a four‑hour shift some Saturdays in rotation with other library staff.
General Qualifications Requirements
Education:
An Associate’s degree in a relevant discipline is required.
Experience:
Requires one to two years experience on jobs leading to this, or similar jobs. Experience in libraries preferred. Experience in public speaking required.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Strong and effective oral and written communication skills essential. Initiative, creativity, and organizational ability required. Proficiency with PCs and Office 365 software essential. Ability to quickly learn new computer software applications required. Must comply with established College standards and policies.
Physical RequirementsExtreme ambulatory requirements; extreme cognitive requirements; normal speech‑communication requirements; normal written communication required; normal or corrected vision required; normal or corrected hearing required; and moderate travel required. Requires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 50 pounds; operating a calculator, personal computer, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting and filing.

Working ConditionsNormal office environment.
