LSCO publishes an Annual Security Report that provides information regarding campus Safety & Security, including topics such as crime reporting policies, information regarding programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, the procedures the College will follow when one of these crimes is reported, and other matters of importance related to security on campus.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes.

Job Summary

The CTE Advisor reports directly to the Director of Advising and Career Services and is responsible for leading advising efforts for our Career and Technical Education students and programs. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

Duties/Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Advise current and prospective Career and Technical Education students on degree pathways, program requirements, and career outcomes through course planning and selection.
  • Maintain relationships with local workforce partners to understand hiring trends and coordinate with internship/apprenticeship leaders in relation to students preparing for the workforce.
  • Establish close working relationships with high school counselors to initiate, coordinate, and conduct CTE presentations to high schools.
  • Maintain close working relationships with technical program faculty in planning career alignment and offer classroom visits for cohort registration sessions.
  • Assist in advising AAS transfer students and initiate recruitment efforts of BAAS transfer programs at partnership institutions.
  • Aid in the response of college information requests about CTE programs and degrees using enrollment reports and college CRM platform.
  • In collaboration with others, plan and implement workshops geared toward job placement for CTE students/graduates such as career development, resume building, and interview skills.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of campus events such as new student orientations, campus tours, college fairs, career expos, etc. for CTE students.
  • OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum /

    Preferred Qualifications EDUCATION

    Associate degree required. Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, education, communication, or related fields preferred.

    EXPERIENCE

    Experience working in higher education and/or recruiting preferred.

    Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of advising techniques and of computers, applications, and software programs that support advising programs preferred. Knowledge of the Texas State University System, industry and technology, recruiting, and job placement is preferred. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Bi-lingual preferred. Must be able to work some nights and/or weekends. Requires travel.

    Physical Requirements

    Requires frequent sitting, walking, and standing. Requires frequent driving, lifting, and pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 20 pounds. Requires operating a personal computer, calculator and various pieces of office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing.

    Security Sensitive

    This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.

    Working Conditions

    Normal office environment requires travel within a 100-mile radius and may require some overnight travel to conferences or workshops.
