Job Description

The Bolting Foreman is responsible for safely performing and supervising mechanical work involving the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of heat exchangers, drums, pressure vessels, and related components. This role requires advanced mechanical skills, strong leadership abilities, and strict adherence to JVIC safety, confined‑space, and 100% tie‑off policies. The Foreman will lead crews, plan work sequences, oversee equipment and material usage, ensure quality workmanship, and maintain accurate job documentation while mentoring less‑experienced technicians.

Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities
  • Inspect worksites to identify safety hazards before work begins.
  • Plan installation sequences to avoid interference with other trades.
  • Select proper materials, tools, and equipment based on job specifications.
  • Install manways, hand holes, valves, gauges, and feedwater connections on drums.
  • Perform pressure testing using water or gas to detect leaks.
  • Repair heat exchangers and drums by removing defective parts, installing tubes, straightening plates, and replacing components.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heat exchangers and position drums/headers into supports.
  • Operate hand torque wrenches, hydraulic tools, pneumatic rad guns, and hydraulic bolt tensioners.
  • Operate torque pump control pendants and perform stud tensioning independently.
  • Convert foot‑pounds to PSI and apply shop mathematics as needed.
  • Follow all PPE, OSHA/ANSI, respirator, and confined‑space requirements.
  • Work extended hours, including nights or overtime, when required.
  • Maintain strong communication and positive working relationships.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Mentor and develop less‑experienced employees.
Foreman Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise daily crew operations to ensure safe, timely, and efficient work execution.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
  • Ensure crew compliance with JVIC safety standards, PPE rules, confined‑space entry, and 100% tie‑off policies.
  • Assign job tasks based on skill level, certifications, and project needs.
  • Ensure adequate tools, materials, and equipment are available and properly set up.
  • Monitor work quality, productivity, and adherence to job specifications.
  • Provide real‑time coaching, corrective action, and technical guidance to crew members.
  • Review drawings, isometrics, and job plans; translate them into clear instructions.
  • Communicate progress, delays, or issues to project management and field supervision.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, documentation, safety forms, and equipment tracking.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and project deadlines.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians to build team competency.
Qualifications
  • Clean safety record.
  • Must be drug‑free and able to pass pre‑employment, random, for‑cause, and post‑accident drug screens.
  • Must pass a physical, PFT/FIT test, and background check.
  • Must complete Safety Council training: basic plus, site‑specific, 19

    Leak, 19

    Torque, 19

    Flange, 19

    Hex, and confined space.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in productive work practices.
  • Must hold Level II Torque Certifications.
  • Must pass TB Level II Craft Test, including 2 hours of instructor‑led training and 2 hours hands‑on evaluation.
  • Craft test results must be approved by operations.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to work at heights from 2’ to 300’ with 100% tie‑off.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and stairs and maintain balance in elevated spaces.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to read flat drawings, prints, isometrics, and visualize 3D structures.
  • Experience with layout, fitting, and assembly of fabricated, cast, or forged components.
  • Good vision (corrective lenses acceptable).
  • Ability to stand for long periods, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl in restricted areas.
  • Strong manual dexterity and tool handling capability.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to work within precise limits and meet high accuracy standards.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
