Scaffold Builder Journeyman - Austin Industrial
Austin Industrial is a merit shop, employee‑owned company that has been a provider of construction, maintenance, plant services, turnaround, and specialty services to the oil, gas and chemical, energy (power and ethanol), and manufacturing industries for more than 60 years.
This person will construct, assemble, maintain, and dismantle tubular scaffolding or other temporary structures. Minimum of 3 years of experience is required within the scaffolding craft. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities- Determines type of scaffold needed.
- Inspects job site and all scaffold material for defects and safety hazards.
- Effectively communicates safety hazards and mitigates avoidable hazards prior to construction of scaffolding.
- Transports tubular scaffold or other structural material and erects the scaffold to the dimensions required.
- Hoists scaffolding materials upward in order to erect temporary structure.
- Properly secures and levels locking sections of scaffolding material.
- Properly secures scaffold to the permanent structure for added stability.
- Adheres to all OSHA, site specific and Austin Industrial requirements for the erecting and navigation of the scaffolding.
- Performs final inspection of completed scaffolding.
- Dismantles scaffolding when it has been properly communicated to do so.
- Inspects and properly stows scaffolding material after dismantling.

Required For This Position Education
High School diploma with a certification as a lubrication technician.
Experience3 years’ minimum experience, ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMay directly supervise 1 to 5 scaffold builder helpers in the Operations Department, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Austin Industrial’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.
Language SkillsAbility to read, write, and speak fluent English; present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; vibration; wet and/or humid conditions; and loud noise levels.
Certification / LicenseTWIC Card and Valid State .
