Position: TRIO Student Support Services Academic Counselor (51140)
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program designed to assist students who are first generation college, income qualified (low-income), and/or have a documented disability. The Academic Counselor will report to the TRIO SSS Program Director and will work collaboratively with other TRIO SSS staff and related support personnel at the University to perform the following responsibilities:
1. Provides academic, career, retention and financial literacy counseling to a cohort of TRIO SSS students in the program.
2. Develops and provides Individual Student Academic plans, advising, and monitors students' progress, utilizing grades, conferences, instructor feedback and other appropriate information for new and continuing TRIO SSS students.
3. Provides workshops for TRIO SSS students on financial aid, financial literacy, career planning and study strategies.
4. Consults with faculty, Financial Aid Office, and TRIO SSS staff, on behalf of program students.
5. Plans and facilitates monthly workshops, and other activities for program participants.
6. Establishes and maintains confidential records and contributes to program record keeping system.
9. Participates in all other operational aspects of the project, including program planning and development. 10. Performs other duties as assigned.

* Master's Degree in Education, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology or closely related field;

* Three (3) years' experience in TRIO or similar programs that serve underrepresented groups, preferably low-income, disabled, and/or first-generation students OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;

* Demonstrated experience working with college students;

* Experience with academic planning and advising;

* Experience with peer mentoring and tutoring programs;

* Ability to work independently and/or as a team member;

* Strong computer skills;

* Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;

* Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and student body.

Funding Source:
Grant-funded through August 31, 2025. Continuation after August 31, 2025 is contingent upon funding.
