Physical Therapist

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist (PT) provides services to students with physical disabilities or impairments by creating individualized therapy plans to improve mobility, strength, and function. The PT collaborates with other staff and provides support to enhance students' physical abilities and participation in daily school activities.

• Assess students’ physical needs and develop personalized therapy programs to enhance motor skills, coordination, and strength.
• Provide therapeutic interventions for students with physical impairments to improve their physical function and quality of life.
• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with physical disabilities.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to implement therapy plans.
• Train students on mobility aids, equipment, and adaptive technology.
• Monitor and track student progress and modify therapy plans as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding physical therapy services in schools.
• Document patient progress and communicate findings to parents and school staff.
• Educate school staff on physical therapy practices and safety guidelines for working with students with physical disabilities.
• Any other duties as assigned.

• Master’s or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
• Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of South Carolina.
• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or school setting.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of IEP development and state regulations for student care.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively; sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and instructional materials. Noise level is typically moderate, but can be higher during student-centered activities or events. Occasional local travel for school-related functions may be required.

This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is in accordance with applicable federal and South Carolina labor laws.
