Job Summary

Under general supervision performs routine security duties in protecting state and personal property and maintaining security of state institution. Performs routine and repetitive duties following clearly prescribed standards and practices as set forth by the Manager of Hospital Security. Work involves shift work and some overtime. Comes in contact on a daily basis with faculty, staff, students, employees and visitors. Must be able to use tact and communicate clearly with the public.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Ability to communicate tactfully with the general public. Knowledge of methods of security in buildings and grounds.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Diploma; a Bachelor’s degree or other relevant certifications may be substituted for the required work experience.
  • Experience:

    1 year of relevant experience (Security, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Behavioral Health, Counselor, Education, or Military).
  • Credentials:
    Must obtain and be able to maintain the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety certification (IAHSS) within the first year of employment. Must have a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

  • Examples include:
    To transfer a 100 lb. patient who cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous)
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous)
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous)
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous)
