General Description:The purpose of this job is to perform skilled labor using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment in the maintenance of general commercial buildings. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities:The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
• Perform electrical maintenance including: repair lights, receptacles, breakers, and switches; run new electrical lines; troubleshoot electrical systems, and repair compactors. Makes electrical connections as required.
• Perform plumbing maintenance such as: repairing water lines, commodes, and faucets; replacing valves and sewer lines; and unclogging sewer lines, plumbing houses.
• Perform maintenance on buildings which includes; installing drywall paneling, tile, roofing, replacing ceiling tiles.
• Operate heavy-duty vehicle to move machinery.
• Repairs doors and replaces locks when necessary.
• Paints walls as needed.
• Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.
MinimumEducation and Experience Requirements:
Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent. Requires two (2) years of experience in commercial electrical maintenance, manual labor, street maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Demands:Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):• Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
Bright/dim light;
Dusts and pollen.
Extreme heat and/or cold;
Wet or humid conditions.
Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
Vibration;
Fumes and/or noxious odors.
Traffic;
Moving machinery.
Electrical shock;
Heights.
