Road Maintenance Crew Leader

General Description:

The purpose of this job is to operate heavy equipment, drive dump trucks, use hand tools, and complete necessary paperwork for the repair and improvement of roads.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

• Conduct pre- and post-inspection on equipment.
• Operate equipment such as boom or knuckle-boom truck to remove debris.
• Drive truck to haul supplies or debris to job site or landfill.
• Operate some small engine equipment.
• Maintain record of amount of materials hauled.
• Perform maintenance, wash and otherwise service equipment.
• Maintain and monitor supplies.
• Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires two years of experience in operating heavy equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to:

• Bright/dim light;
  Dusts and pollen.
• Extreme heat and/or cold;
  Wet or humid conditions.
• Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
• Vibration;
  Fumes and/or noxious odors.
• Traffic;
  Moving machinery.

• Must possess and maintain a valid state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
