Compensation
- Annual Pay Range: $ - $ (Current)
- Hourly Pay Range: $48.54 - $61.32
- Annual Pay Range: $ - $ (Effective July 1, 2026)
- Hourly Pay Range: $49.85 - $62.97
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor Land Surveyors and Survey Technicians, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
- Review, approve, sign, and seal survey documents prepared by the survey team.
- Review and approve documents prepared by private surveyors on County capital projects.
- Develop, establish, and implement standards within the office.
- Serve as technical resource for staff and provide guidance on survey standards, easements, and land records.
- Ensure data integrity, legal compliance, and field-to-office excellence.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Valid and active registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in any U.S. state at time of hire.
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional land surveying experience.
- Experience leading the work of others, including daily work direction, scheduling, assigning work, checking completed work, and providing training.
- Experience conducting research and preparing drawings, maps, legal descriptions, and survey-related documents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing and approving legal descriptions and construction surveys.
- Proficiency with modern survey technologies such as GNSS, LiDAR, electronic data collectors, and CAD/design software.
- Experience leading transportation survey projects.
- Experience performing or reviewing surveys related to transportation infrastructure, including roads, bridges, right-of-way resolution, and construction staking.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed individually in compliance with state and federal legislation.
- Driving is required for County business on a regular basis; incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
Post-Employment Requirements
- Within six (6) months of hire, register as a Professional Surveyor in the State of Oregon and maintain a valid and active license throughout employment.

Work Schedule
This position is part of the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours will be discussed with the selected candidate. The role is eligible for hybrid on-site/telework based on departmental needs; telework cannot be located outside of Oregon or Washington. Washington residents must perform 50% of their time on-site at Clackamas County.
Working Conditions
Occasional duties in the field require walking, twisting, balancing, and involve exposure to inclement weather, noise, and uneven terrain.
