Located on the southern edge of the City of Portland and extending to the top of Mt. Hood, Clackamas County is part of a thriving region in the Northwest. It has a population of about 420,000 residents.

This recruitment is open to applicants who are currently or have been certified as a basic Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy/Officer and have completed at least one (1) year of civilian law enforcement experience as a Jail Deputy/Officer within the last five (5) years. Military police experience does not qualify as lateral experience.

Annual Pay Range: $80,869.32 - $ Hourly Pay Range: $38.879479 - $49.787899

The hourly pay range for this classification includes the following steps:
Step 2: $38.879479 | Step 3: $40.819194 | Step 4: $42.994257 | Step 5: $45.114226 | Step 6: $47.417047 | Step 7: $49.787899

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is seeking highly motivated, self-directed candidates with strong communication and interpersonal skills for Jail Deputy. This recruitment is open to applicants who are currently or have been certified as a basic Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy/Officer and have completed at least one (1) year of civilian law enforcement experience as a Jail Deputy/Officer within the last five (5) years.

Military police experience does not qualify as lateral experience. Applicants not meeting this criteria will be inactivated.

All Sheriff's Office positions require a complete Statement of Personal History (SPH). Only those applicants selected will need to submit the SPH. Applicants will receive instructions from the Department of Human Resources or the Sheriff's Office on how to login to the electronic SPH.

Minimum Qualifications / Transferrable

Skills:

  • Must be currently or have been certified as a basic Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy/Officer with at least one (1) year of civilian law enforcement experience as a Jail Deputy/Officer within the last five (5) years.
  • Must be 21 years of age by date of employment.
  • Must be a United States citizen or be one within eighteen (18) months of hire.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate of high school equivalency, or bachelor degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be free from convictions of a serious nature, such as domestic violence, drug-trafficking and manufacturing, and any felony.
  • Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State.
