ResponsibilitiesClackamas Water Environment Services (WES) is seeking a skilled Wastewater Maintenance Technician to join plant operations at their Tri-City Water Resource Recovery Facility in Oregon City and Kellogg Creek Water Resource Recovery Facility in Milwaukie. The technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing specialized mechanical equipment and machinery used in the conveyance and treatment of wastewater. Equipment may include valves, pumps, piping, compressors, conveyors, centrifuges, tanks, mixers, gearboxes, fans, bar screens, blowers, aeration systems, clarifiers, disinfection systems, and related equipment.
Typical duties include:
- Install, inspect, maintain and repair machinery and equipment; examine, adjust, lubricate and paint machinery; replace worn or broken parts; fabricate and modify parts and tools.
- Install, inspect, maintain and repair building structures and systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and water boiler systems).
- Review machinery diagnostics, troubleshoot, and evaluate condition and performance; implement modifications and improvements.
- Participate in developing and implementing maintenance, repair and replacement programs; evaluate asset condition, assist in planning projects, assess cost effectiveness of replacement vs. repair, and maintain parts and supplies inventory.
- Record, document and track maintenance activities in a CMMS; prepare and maintain preventative maintenance manuals.
- Serve as project or team leader on special assignments; train lower-level staff and participate in safety training; ensure safe working practices.
- Provide construction support for Capital Improvement Projects as assigned, including design review and project commissioning.
- Provide public and customer service support to County operations and other municipalities; respond to inquiries and conduct facility tours as needed.
Required
Minimum Qualifications / Transferrable
Skills:
- At least two (2) years of related experience.
- Experience inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment.
- Experience with pumps and pumping systems, piping, valves, and check valves.
- Experience operating precision hand tools, power tools, precision measurement tools, and basic machine tools.
- Basic understanding of volt meters, electric motors, and motor alignment.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems such as centrifuges and gravity belt thickeners.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety in an industrial facility.
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable
Skills:
- Experience in wastewater plant operations.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and work orders.
- Experience with welding and fabrication.
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license.
- Associate's degree in Wastewater Treatment Technologies or related field, or bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests reviewed per state and federal law.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; regular county business driving may be required.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Inspect and maintain building structures and systems (HVAC, water boilers).
- Troubleshoot machinery, evaluate condition and performance; implement improvements.
- Contribute to maintenance planning, asset condition evaluation, and inventory management.
- Document maintenance activities in CMMS and maintain preventative maintenance manuals.
- Lead small projects or tasks; train others and support safety training.
- Support Capital Improvement Projects and project commissioning as assigned.
- Provide public/customer service support and explain wastewater systems to stakeholders.
