Middle School Yearbook Advisor

The Middle School Yearbook Advisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the development and publication of the school yearbook. The advisor will work with student volunteers or a designated yearbook team to ensure the yearbook accurately represents the school year, students, staff, activities, and accomplishments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the overall development and production of the middle school yearbook.
  • Recruit, organize, and supervise students assisting with the yearbook.
  • Coordinate photography and coverage of school events, activities, clubs, athletics, and other student activities.
  • Collect and organize photographs, student information, staff information, and other yearbook content.
  • Guide students in writing captions, stories, and other yearbook content.
  • Review all content for accuracy, appropriateness, grammar, and spelling.
  • Work with the yearbook publishing company to create layouts, submit pages, and meet publishing deadlines.
  • Maintain communication with school staff and administration regarding yearbook content and deadlines.
  • Ensure students and school activities are represented accurately and appropriately.
  • Maintain organized digital files, photographs, and yearbook materials.
  • Coordinate the final submission and delivery of the completed yearbook.
  • Promote yearbook sales and assist with distribution when appropriate.
  • Attend school events as needed to ensure adequate yearbook coverage.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively with middle school students.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and multiple projects.
  • Basic knowledge of photography, graphic design, or digital publishing is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with students and staff.
  • Previous yearbook, journalism, photography, or publishing experience is preferred but not required.

Position Expectations:

This is an extracurricular/advisory position and is not a regularly scheduled classroom course. The advisor will coordinate yearbook activities outside of the regular school day and as needed throughout the school year. The advisor is expected to maintain regular communication with student yearbook participants and ensure all publisher deadlines are met.
