CRAFTING YOUR CLINICAL PATH

When you become part of our hospitalist team at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH), you’ll be a key player in delivering patient care within a dynamic healthcare environment. You will join a close-knit group of 15 professionals providing advanced, comprehensive, and patient-centered hospital-based medical care across a wide range of cases, from complex medical conditions to surgical patients and other specialized needs.

Your role includes managing a broad spectrum of patient needs, from acute ailments to chronic conditions. You’ll be the key physician during hospital stays, creating treatment plans, interpreting diagnostic insights, prescribing medications, and making crucial medical decisions. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team—nurses, specialists, surgeons, and allied health professionals—to ensure comprehensive patient care, especially in complex scenarios with comorbidities.

You’ll participate in transitioning patients through care phases, contribute to quality initiatives that uplift care, engage in medical education activities, and advocate for patients’ medical needs. Your dedication to patient-centered care and teamwork will support an environment focused on excellence and compassion.

Our hospitalist program is connected with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and residency programs, creating opportunities for mentoring and clinical teaching. You can integrate these experiences into your schedule for professional growth and contribution to medical education. Participation in projects related to Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) is encouraged, with support from Doctors of BC.

We serve approximately 85,000 residents across the region and provide round-the-clock emergency and trauma care, plus units for intensive care, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. Our specialists cover ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. The 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) highlights our role as the regional hub for high-acuity care.

Benefits and Incentives
Vacation leave with flexible scheduling. May be eligible for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
Retention Premium 11.48%, Retention Flat Fee $17,791, Relocation Funding available: $9,000 within BC, $12,000 within Canada, $15,000 from outside Canada, Recruitment Incentive $15,000. Other benefits include RCME funds and PQI-related support. Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.
