The Trail and Rossland locations are part of the West Kootenay community. The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH), a 75‑bed full‑service regional hospital serving 80,000 people, provides core specialist physician services and is the regional base for a 24‑hour High Acuity Response Team (HART).

The KBRH offers core specialist physician services including 24‑hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Level 2 Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute and Obstetrical Care, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Chemotherapy and advanced diagnostic services. Transport is supported by BC Ambulance Services (BCAS) for major medical care with transfer to Kelowna (313 km from Trail).

Excellent opportunity for a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to discover the rewards of career satisfaction working within a strong culture of teamwork while delivering excellence in care. In this role, you will be part of a team of psychiatrists and will provide consults to the pediatric unit, the emergency department, and will have the opportunity to maintain a community‑based practice. This position offers the flexibility to be part‑time or full‑time.

• Community child and adolescent mental health services in collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and community mental health services
• Child & Adolescent Psychiatry community mental health and inpatient services
• Developmental delay and mental health services
• Private child and adolescent psychiatry services in the community – options to be discussed further with interested candidates
• Provide service to KBRH’s 12‑bed general adult inpatient unit while providing on‑call coverage

Our team strives to provide quality psychiatric care to residents throughout the Kootenay Boundary region. Community work would involve supporting family physicians, pediatricians, and child & youth mental health services. Discussion is also underway for the development of a small Child & Adolescent Psychiatry inpatient unit, for which the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute ideas and feedback.

This role offers teaching opportunities to locally placed UBC students and Family Medicine and Psychiatry residents. Opportunities are also available for those with a desire to pursue an administrative leadership role or further develop a subspecialty area of interest, such as addictions.

The Rural Specialist Locum Program (RSLP) provides coverage for travel and accommodations when following program guidelines. The guaranteed daily rate is $1,875 per day (effective January 1, 2024). In A and B designated communities, the Rural Retention Program (RRP) fee premium percentage will be applied to the daily rate which will increase the daily rate to between $1,875 and $2,437.

The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high‑potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
