Physician – Dermatology Trainee

The Physician – Dermatology Trainee is a licensed physician seeking to develop specialized expertise in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology under the supervision of experienced dermatologists. This role is designed to provide structured, hands-on training in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of dermatologic conditions while delivering high-quality patient care.

The trainee will progressively build clinical competency, procedural skills, and dermatology-specific knowledge while adhering to all clinical, ethical, and regulatory standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Training

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat common dermatologic conditions under physician supervision
  • Perform comprehensive skin examinations, including full-body skin checks
  • Develop treatment plans for conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, and other dermatologic disorders
  • Participate in the management of chronic dermatologic diseases

Procedural Training

  • Assist with and progressively perform dermatologic procedures, including:
    • Skin biopsies (shave, punch, excisional)
    • Cryotherapy and lesion destruction
    • Surgical excisions and closures
    • Cosmetic procedures (as appropriate and trained)
  • Maintain proper sterile technique and adherence to infection control standards

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document patient encounters in the EMR in a timely manner
  • Ensure all charts are completed, coded, and signed according to practice standards
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and all applicable federal and state regulations
  • Follow billing and coding guidelines with supervision and training

Patient Experience

  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care
  • Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive skin care
  • Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor with patients and staff

Collaboration & Learning

  • Work closely with supervising dermatologists, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff
  • Participate in case discussions, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Accept feedback and incorporate it into clinical practice

Requirements

Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in the State of Oregon (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date)
  • DEA license (or eligibility to obtain)

Experience

  • Completion of an accredited residency program (preferred but not always required depending on training model)
  • Prior exposure to dermatology (clinical rotations, electives, or experience) preferred

  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills
  • Interest in dermatology and procedural medicine
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment

  • Exposure to clinical procedures and medical equipment
