GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The job of a teacher is to provide general education instruction to youth enrolled in a behavioral self‑contained program. This position will work collaboratively with special educators and mental health professionals to provide a cohesive program for students who are unable to access the educational program in a less restrictive environment due to their behavioral and emotional needs.
The teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, families, specialists, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The teacher will instruct and supervise a diverse group of students by establishing a positive, respectful learning environment while promoting high standards of performance for all students, regardless of their background and developmental levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Valid Oregon teacher's license with appropriate subject area endorsementFamiliarity with a variety of age appropriate instructional, assessment, and student management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rightsAbility to exhibit professionalism and effective human relationsAbility to effectively manage and supervise students and their workAbility to direct the work of other staff membersPrior experience working with students with behavioral needs preferredMaster's degree preferredBilingual and biliteracy skills preferredPossession of CPR/First Aid certification preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of best practices in reducing disproportionality, disparities, and predictability in student outcomes through work focused on supporting racially, linguistically and economically diverse students and educatorsEffective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collect, analyze and interpret different types of student data, and to use information to inform instructionStrong technical skills including use of presentation software, word processing, and the ability to learn to use technology to innovate and improve instructionAbility to work with minimal supervision, communicate clearly, and prioritize and manage multiple projectsExperience in the education of children who exhibit behavior and emotional disorders, including effective strategies for managing behaviorWorking knowledge and experience in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP)Observe laws, NWRESD policies and procedures, and professional standards for this positionRespect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff, and familiesCollect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize, and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methodsDevelop job skills necessary to meet changes in the positionMaintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the NWRESDMeet applicable physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the positionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Develop and deliver instruction to students in assigned curriculum area, using self-designed and adopted curriculum aligned with Oregon state standardsAssess student progress regularly, keeping accurate records and providing progress reports as required, and communicating with families as deemed necessaryCreate a classroom…
