DUTIESThe Instructional Assistant for the Developmental Learning Classroom (DLC) supports the special education teacher to promote access and inclusion for students with significant learning needs. The assistant helps deliver individualized supports, manages classroom and student routines, and promotes learning and skill‑building in academic, social, communication, and personal development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High School Diploma or the equivalent; associate’s degree; 2 years of college or the equivalent.
- Experience working with children experiencing disability in a school or care setting preferred.
- Patience, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- General clerical skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong communication and collaborative working relationships with children and adults.
- Such alterations to the above as the Board may find appropriate.
- Support students in the classroom and in inclusive settings (e.g., general education classrooms, lunch, recess, specials).
- Under supervision of a certified teacher, prepare for classroom activities and routines.
- Work with individual and small groups of students to support the academic, communication, developmental or life skills goals of students.
- Assist teacher with noninstructional classroom duties, such as monitoring behaviors and supervision of students outside of the classroom.
- Follow specialized plans to support learning or behavior of students; collect data or create records as directed.
- Perform clerical duties; care for instructional equipment; run errands; prepare displays and bulletin boards; set up special interest areas.
- Check notebooks, correct papers, score tests, and assist with testing, as required.
- Perform physical labor as required, such as moving books, classroom materials and cleaning up after classroom activities.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Follow district and building policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
$17.70 - $21.16 per hour, depending on experience.
