Rainier School District is in search of a Full‑time Special Education Teacher.
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this Special Education Teacher serves as a specialist for students who require special education programming and support. This teacher provides appropriate educational programming for students who experience a continuum of needs from moderate to severe impact on their education due to their disability and who require support services in order to access and benefit from general education instruction.
This teacher provides students with direct instruction in academic, functional, cognitive processing, social skills, and life skills in hygiene, communication, self‑care, and personal management. In addition to these individualized programs, the staff may assist general education classroom teachers with curriculum selection and development of behavior management programs.
Students may receive instruction within the Special Education classroom or in general education classes as appropriate. The teacher follows regulations associated with IDEA, FAPE, procedural safeguards, and IEP development and implementation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Meet district, state, and federal requirements and maintain proper documentation.
- Conduct specialized student assessments and evaluations using appropriate measurement tools.
- Establish and facilitate meetings and discussions with stakeholders.
- Consult with others to develop a plan that guides appropriate instruction and services.
- Utilize support personnel effectively and supervise interns as needed.
- Respond to teachers’ instructional needs and provide suitable resources.
- Provide direct service to students, families, and colleagues with developmental competence.
- Engage in primary prevention activities and evaluate program outcomes.
- Develop and monitor student behavior plans.
- Create and coordinate school‑wide or community programs to support families.
- Participate in professional in‑service and ongoing training.
- Fulfills other related duties and working conditions as assigned.
- Plan and prepare instruction for students.
- Create a respectful learning environment and manage student behavior.
- Use effective instructional strategies, including questioning and engagement techniques.
- Maintain professional responsibilities such as record keeping, family communication, and professional learning community participation.
- Attend educational support meetings, including IEP and school board meetings.
- Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to the supervisor.
- Must hold a valid Oregon Teaching License with required endorsement; willingness to obtain license if not yet held.
- Works well with diverse backgrounds, focuses on conflict resolution, maintains confidentiality, listens, and contributes to team spirit.
- Demonstrates leadership ability in a dynamic student environment; plans and assigns work to support staff.
- Experience working with adolescent students; student teaching experience is acceptable.
- Fluent verbal and written communication in English; ability to draft correspondence and interpret instructions.
- Mathematics proficiency at established grade‑level standards.
- Reasoning skill to apply common sense in written, verbal, and diagrammatic instructions.
- Computer skill: proficiency with database software, internet, email, MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Synergy gradebook.
- Ability to communicate with students, teachers, parents, community members, and agencies; good judgment in interruptions.
- Bachelor’s Degree
