Job Definition

The Classroom Teacher will motivate, assist and guide the learning of students, including their prescribed instruction, discipline, safety and health while under the supervision of the school. The Classroom Teacher will also lead each student toward the fulfillment of his or her potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation by providing appropriate instruction to each student. The Classroom Teacher reports to the school principal.

  • Identifies the needs of individual students by continuous assessment of their abilities.
  • Uses identified student needs to plan instruction.
  • Writes instructional plans.
  • Uses a variety of appropriate methods and materials to implement instructional plans.
  • Manages the classroom to create the optimum learning conditions.
  • Makes appropriate application of learning theory to meet the needs of students.
  • Evaluates and reports student progress.
  • Assists with the planning and conduction of parent conferences.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Provides plans for and supervises educational assistants.
  • Supervises students in and out of the classroom.
  • Initiates and maintains communication with colleagues.
  • Assists in the assessment of building level needs and the planning required to meet those needs.
  • Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed.
  • Fulfills all appropriate responsibilities assigned to the Classroom Teacher.
  • Fulfills other related duties as assigned or assumed.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily indoors in a classroom setting, with occasional outdoor supervision, school activities, or field trips. The position requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and frequent movement throughout the instructional space. The role may involve lifting, carrying, or moving instructional materials or equipment consistent with assigned duties. The employee may be exposed to moderate noise levels and a range of student behaviors while managing classroom dynamics.

Participation in meetings, school events, conferences, professional responsibilities, and activities outside the regular instructional day may be required, consistent with the Bend Education Association/Bend-La Pine Schools Collective Bargaining Agreement. The role requires sustained attention, instructional decision-making, classroom management, and ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
